Yes, dogs are welcome at The Old Post Office Campsite. However, breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (e.g., Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) are not permitted.

The campsite offers modern toilets and showers (showers cost 50p for approximately 10 minutes), a laundry room with coin-operated machines, dishwashing sinks with free hot water, Wi-Fi, and picnic benches.

The site is well-maintained with pathways and offers scenic views of the mountains, river and countryside.

Yes, the campsite is bordered by the River Irt, which is suitable for swimming and salmon or trout fishing.

Those that wish to fish, must have a valid Rod licence for the duration of there stay.

  • Group bookings of 2 or more units (e.g., tent, touring caravan, motorhome, or accommodation hire) traveling together are not permitted.
  • Group bookings of 3 or more adults are also not permitted, with exceptions for couples and immediate family members.
  • Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people are not permitted.
  • Hen/stag parties are not permitted.

The campsite offers various pitch types, including:

  • Non-electric grass tent pitches
  • Electric hardstanding and grass tent or motorhome pitches
  • Electric hardstanding and grass campervan pitches
  • Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitches
  • Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitches (super).

Each pitch type has specific features and maximum occupancy limits.

  • Payments can be made via bank transfer, or card payments on site.
  • A 15% non-refundable deposit is payable at the time of booking.
  • The balance is due 12 weeks before arrival, or immediately if the arrival date is sooner than 12 weeks.
Yes, a gift and farm shop is located in Santon Bridge, just a 10 minute walk from the campsite.
  • Visitors are allowed for a maximum of 1 hour.
  • A member of staff must be informed if anyone is intending on visiting.
  • All visitors must sign the visitors book that is in Reception.

Yes, the campsite is family-friendly and offers a peaceful, natural setting ideal for children to explore. However, children must be supervised at all times due to the proximity of the River Irt.

Open fires are not permitted. However, raised BBQs are allowed as long as they do not damage the grass. Always ensure fire safety and dispose of ashes responsibly.

If you’re using a disposable BBQ, please do not place it on the garden tables or directly on the grass. It can burn the grass and damage the ground beneath.

To prevent this, a portable camping BBQ stand must be used when using any BBQ on-site. These stands are easy to use and widely available, including on Amazon.

Late arrivals are not accepted without prior arrangement. Please contact the campsite directly if you expect to arrive outside the 1:00 pm – 6:30 pm window.
Mobile reception can be limited due to the rural location. Wi-Fi is available on-site for guests, although speeds may vary depending on weather and usage.
Yes, guests are expected to observe quiet hours between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am to maintain a peaceful atmosphere for all campers.

While the site is relatively level and well-kept, some areas may not be fully accessible. Guests with specific accessibility needs should contact the site in advance for more details.

Guests are expected to use the recycling facilities provided and leave pitches clean and tidy. Waste must be sorted and disposed of in designated bins to help preserve the natural surroundings.

Kindly do not dispose of camping equipment, such as tents, ground sheets, or chairs, in the site bins.
We ask that you take all equipment home with you for proper disposal.

The campsite is located near the western edge of the Lake District National Park.

Nearby attractions include:

  • Wastwater (England’s deepest lake)
  • Scafell Pike (the highest mountain in England)
  • Muncaster Castle and Gardens
  • Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway

In the Reception area, you’ll find a selection of leaflets and flyers highlighting things to see and do in the local area, perfect for planning your days out.
This is also where you’ll find the fridge and freezer, available for use by our grass tent pitch guests.
